Learning to use jQuery

What is jQuery?

jQuery is a fast, small, and feature-rich JavaScript library. JQuery makes things like HTML document traversal and manipulation, event handling, animation, and Ajax much simpler with an easy-to-use API that works across a multitude of browsers. It is a very powerful web dev tool.

jQuery was released in 2006, originally as a DOM manipulation library. It has since grown much bigger, and now provides hundreds of methods for selecting nodes, as well as traversing the DOM, animation effects, Ajax and events. Perhaps the biggest advantage of using jQuery is its support for older browsers. If you find yourself having to support these browsers then jQuery could save you a huge amount of time and headache.
